Plymouth In Bloom
Rowdens Reservoir Allotments took the Gold Award for the best allotment site in Plymouth at the annual Plymouth in Bloom competition (2007). We received a certificate and a cup and are looking to maintain our position next year. The following four photos were taken at our October meeting and at the allotments where the sun was just rising on keen manure shifters! Spot the cup in the photographs?
Plymouth as a whole has done well in Britain in Bloom 2007 and won an RHS Gold award for the large city category.
Plymouth also received a discretionary award for Mt. Edgcumbe Park, across the water, being nominated Best Public Park in Britain! This is no surprise to anyone who visits the park, we rather hoped we had kept it secret till now though!
Due to the progress made with the "In Bloom" campaign over the last few years Plymouth has been nominated to represent Britain in the Entente Florale, the European "In Bloom" competition for 2008.
Anybody who is interested in becoming more involved with the "In Bloom" campaign should contact Park Services. They are looking for people who are interested in getting involved with community projects, wildlife/conservation initiatives or generally interested in helping improve our environment, making it a colourful and bright place to live. Park Services can be contacted on 01752 606034 to discuss how to become involved.
